Clickatell provides faster SMS with Raid

COMPUTING SA EXCLUSIVE -- DCC and Breakpoint Solutions have recently supplied SMS gateway provider, Clickatell, with six Adaptec DuraStor 6320 Raid SCSI-based arrays, totaling 4TB of capacity, aiming to improve the company's SMS delivery speeds.

"Clickatell's clients, including developers and application vendors, utilize its carrier grade technology platform for immediate deployment of various consumer and business solutions, "says Darren Botha, business development manger at Breakpoint Solutions.

Says Patrick Lawson, technical director at Clickatell: "Clickatell's core business is that of an international SMS gateway provider. As such, it recognizes the need for multiple integrators, businesses and application developers to gain access to mobile data delivery capabilities offered by mobile operators. Due to the historical focus of mobile operators on voice services, and the typical inaccessibility to third party data services, Clickatell has embarked on providing a single point of entry for mobile data delivery capability."

According to Lawson, Clickatell has positioned itself at the forefront of global mobile messaging, by consistently ensuring the broadest global network coverage, unmatched delivery reliability and service levels.

"We aim to make global SMS messaging accessible and easy for all - that is why our advertising tagline is 'Any message. Anywhere,'" he adds.

"Clickatell required a faster input/output (IO) requirement for its database service, and extremely fast read and write access for its drives. It installed Sun V65 Intel servers as part of its messaging/delivery platform, and chose Adaptec's Raid arrays in order to upgrade and improve their storage capacity, for which they required 4TB of data," Botha points out.

"We required a holistic, tailored server and storage solution based on best price, quality, best-of-breed products and customer service - which would be robust, with fail-over and redundancy capabilities and a good after-sales support facility - all criteria offered both by Breakpoint, as the reseller, and Drive Control Corporation (DCC) as the distributor," concludes Lawson.
